Well, if it isn’t, it should be.
Look up, waaay up, and you’ll see my industrial addition.
Very traditional. Nice, but not my style. Came with the house. Still confused about that since the previous owners didn’t really have any other finishes in the traditional style. Interesting.
Hemmed and Hawed for years about what to replace it with.
And then I saw a wire basket. And cup hooks.
And cool lightbulbs from the Home Depot:
Lightbulb moment (literally)!
Removed the glass and rim and got this:
Spray painted it with this:
Which turned out to not be so trusty when jumped upon.
Fell off said ladder. Ladder hit wall. Added new project to repairs list. Sigh.
Screwed in the cup hooks, hooked on the basket,
et…Voila!
That looks awesome! Very cool idea. -Amy
Thanks! I love it when an idea comes together. And the hole in the wall gave me another post idea. Silver linings!
Love that brown on the wall in that room, too – it’s about the color I painted our son’s bedroom last spring because nine months out of the year it’s my sitting room/study and I LOVE how peaceful that color is! With black, white, and cream accents it’s gorgeous in there.
It’s actually Cinder Gray, but you are right, it really looks brown in the picture!!
How funny! I think I would really like to do gray on the walls of our main living area, but I TOTALLY hate painting.
Ha as you can guess, I love it. I’ll do it for you!
I wish! 🙂
Pretty cool! I loved all the pictures!
Sometimes pictures just work better than words. I’m very visual so I think I translate my projects best with them. They help me explain what the heck I’m doing! Thanks for the comment!
cute – and I love the OuT sign too! 🙂
Thank you! The “o” is an embroidery hoop! I couldn’t find an actual wooden o. Works just fine, I think.
That NEVER would have occurred to us – what a great solution. But I love the “out” sign! You should do a “house tour” sometime – so many creative touches!
Wow you are so kind! Another blogger commented on the “out” sign as well – I couldn’t find a wooden O so I used an embroidery hoop. Ta Da! I have been thinking about a home tour but every time I do, I look around and realize there are still so many projects that need doing first…
This is amazing!!! You have such a talent.
You can’t see me but I’m blushing! Thanks for the comment.
Haha, you’re welcome.
Omg! I am so doing this now. 🙂 I would say my style is mid century rustic. Think vintage summer camp:)
I too have generic/ traditional light fixtures and this would be an awesome replacement.
From your pics I just love your decor!
Thank you! I love your category too – we should be able to call our style whatever we want! And that kind of light fixture would totally suit Vintage Summer Camp. Thanks for loving my decor. You made my day!
☺
Such a good idea!! I love all of your other decor, too. Great taste 😉
Thank you – I am hugging your comment right now! 🙂
That is fantastic! I’ll be hunting for me some wire baskets at the thrift stores asap! Love it Love it Love it!
That is high praise, my friend! Thank you 🙂
You brave, uber woman!!!
Nice light:))
Dr. Deering
Haha how is that brave? I like being called uber woman though…. 🙂
Love this idea! The original style is purely for collecting bugs!…how do they get in there anyways?? Another great idea!
Smiles!
Terry
I am happy to report just one fly was in that light but I don’t have a clue how even IT got in there. Eww. I’m doing something different with the same light fixture in the hallway, I’ll keep you posted on the body count for that one. 🙂
I love it! That is a really cool light. I will look at wire baskets a little differently now, I would love to switch out one of my similar lights. I just recently learned what Edison bulbs are and I can’t wait to find a place to use one. Thanks for sharing.
Oh please do it and then post about it!
Looks fantastic! You will be the originator of said style. I totally laughed out loud at your “trusty ladder” pic. Classic. And maybe in the interim you could just move your wall art down an inch to cover your new wall dent… lol.
What!? And miss the opportunity to post the repair solution? Never surrender! 🙂
love it!
Yay! Thank you!
The original light fixture was lovely but what you’ve done to it now is very cool – it’s quite strange actually because our post going up tonight has a very similar light theme! Keep an eye out, clearly great minds and all that!
I will definitely have a look! I have another exact same light fixture in the adjacent hallway that I have a different idea for, maybe it’s the same idea as yours! Ha!
Brilliant! The wire basket looks great as lighting. And the whole “chair as ladder” incident is something that would happen to me too. Clever of you to make it funny though…you got my first chuckle of the day. 🙂
Here’s to a good chuckle! If I’m going to risk my neck and put a hole in my wall, might as well use it!
Very clever! I like it…
I’m so glad!
I love that. I’ll have to try something similar with some of my finds.
Yes, you should! Then post about it please 🙂
I really think you are a creative genius! I just think this is so clever. And I peeped the word ‘OUT’ over your door. Swoon. In love with that!
Oh I’m no genius, just cheap, lol! But thank you for the swelled head!
I like the stuff you share, quick and easy. I love crafting but stuff i can cap in an hour or a couple of hours on the outside. Should be visiting often 😉
That’s fantastic! You get me! I am the same – the least amount of time/money, the happier I am. Thanks so much for the comment and the follow!
Awesome job! I tend to break things when I try to fix things as well. Chock it up to learning experience! And if “Midcentury Eclectic Industrial” isn’t a category, then I don’t know what to do to “define” my style. 😉
Well now there’s two of us, so it’s official! Thanks for stopping by!
That industrial fixture is amazing!! Such a wonderful idea! Your house looks so neat!
Well we didn’t have very much to Reno like you, but I still can’t seem to stop messing with it, lol!
